President Dr. Mokgweetsi E.K Masisi says Botswana will continue to work closely with the African Union and other leaders towards achieving Africa’s aspirations and developmental agenda.
“The people of Africa continue to look at this body as messier to deliver them from abject poverty, disease, conflict and gross human rights afflictions.” he said
President Masisi encouraged regional and economic bodies to work together towards the attainment of agenda 2063 adding that the ‘Africa we want’ would not be realized if leaders did not work together.
“We are singularly and collectively compelled to work towards finding lasting solutions to the protective conflicts ravaging some parts of our continent’, he said.
President Masisi thanked the outgoing Chairperson President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for achievements attained during his leadership, notably the successful launch of Afcfta in July as well as the marshaling of the program for Infrastructure Development in Africa
President Masisi also paid homage to the newly elected Chairperson of the African Union President Cyril Ramaposa on the assumption of the chair of the Union.
Delivering his maiden statement to the assembly earlier today, President Masisi said the AU has the potential to tackle various challenges that continue to slowdown developmental efforts and distabilise communities.
